Steelworkers would welcome Tata retaining control of Port Talbot provided the company is committed to the long-term, community leaders have said.

Tony Taylor, a Neath Port Talbot councillor who recently retired after spending 44 years as a blast furnaceman at the Port Talbot steel plant, said most workers he had spoken to “would welcome back Tata Steel with open arms”.
'Marvellous employers'

Speaking of reports Tata is close to agreeing a commercial loan and pensions deal with the Government that would see it keep control of the huge up-for-sale Port Talbot mill, Mr Taylor said: “To be fair, Tata have been marvellous employers over the years.

“And if I was them I would have been peeved to have been left out of discussions over loans and help with the company pension issue while others appeared to have been made offers of help."
